Epic Gifts for your Sis

Epic Gifts for your Sis

That’s cute and all, but I got a roll of foil as a present once, and regardless how much “thought” went into that, it definitely will not reach my “Top 50 Best Presents of all Time that weren’t Alcoholic or a Puppy” list. I actually have one of these lists and you should to.

So to save all of you the turmoil of giving a bad present this holiday season I have complied a list of gift ideas for your beloved sister girlPerfume is never, EVER, A bad choice. Ever. Even the least girly of girls can appreciate a good Eau de Toilette. Try Paco Rabanne’s range of fragrances.

They are face meltingly delicious And since no good deed should go unpunished, but one for your sister and one for you. Or steal hers. Either way.

A day spa gift voucher for both of you: I like this one because it means you also get to spend some quality time together while someone rubs your back. If that’s not the perfect present then I’m not sure what is. We love The Spa at The Darling. Visit the site here.

Hair Care Vouchers and Tools: Beautiful hair, as we all know, is the most coveted of female possessions. Help your sister girl out with some presents for her mane.

Think luscious treatments and oils, or styling products. One super fun and versatile little number is the Remington Perfect Curls Curler. No more scary rollers, just easy, boho inspired waves. And they look gorgeous!

Home-made Voucher Book: This idea is super personalised and a lifesaver for the cash-strapped. Simply make up a voucher booklet filled with cute little coupons. Think things like “Care wash and Vacumn”, “Breakfast date at your choice of venue” or “Facial and Manicure”. Stuff that you can do for/with your sister, that’ll she’ll enjoy and appreciate.

Perfect Skin at Home: Dermalogica has the most gorgeous boxed gift packs (hello time saving!) this Christmas. What sis doesn’t want clear skin for the silly season. We love the Daily Microfoliant Gift Set $83.50 because its the one thing we always forget to buy!

Ready Set Glow!

Ready Set Glow!

So because I am heading off to Hawaii and like many of you, I’m sure, I work inside a cinder block and my skin so seldom experiences the glorious rays of the sun, I am feeling pretty un-tropical. On the plus side my skin will look like a china doll when I’m 900 years old, but still, there are times when i can’t resist the lure of a summer glow. So here are thetans I will lather my flesh with in the lead up to my Hawaiian vacation.

Face: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster glow boosting sun stones. Not usually a fan of bronzer, because of the mess, I was drawn instantly to these bronzing stones. For an instant tan booster that gives the smooth effects of a powdered bronzer, less the mess.

Body: Like me you don’t actually have the privilege of living near Bondi Beach you can fake it nationwide with my new favourite body tan brand, Bondi Sands. Pictured below is the Bondi Sands tanning mist which is suitable for all skin types. Jump in the shower and spray away (so you don’t stain the carpet). Its a light tan so easy to apply and you don’t have much of a chance of overdoing it.

White Summer Essentials

White Summer Essentials

From runway to your way! When I covered Australian Fashion Week earlier this year I was so excited to see so many crisp white designs hit the runway. Ever since Christine Centenera style icon took to the street in chic neutrals I’ve been craving a wardrobe full of black and white. As white is the summer friendly side of Centenera’s wardrobe it’s what I am trying to build. The beauty of white this season is its ok to wear it top, bottom and ever accessorize! Pair with a fabulous tan, clean skin and simple makeup or else you could end up looking like a cast member from Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Here are a few great picks available online now for the picking! Most of these stores are also in Westfield so you should be able to go for a shopping mall browse as well!

Need it Now!

Need it Now!

What did we do before online shopping? Can you imagine hauling your butt to the local shopping centre (which is two bus rides away) every time you want to browse the latest trends? It’s an action that I only gave up about 12 months ago but already seems so foreign.

Recently I had a last minute cocktail event put into my diary. I was at work, with nothing to wear & freaking out a tad! I thought even online shopping was out of the question, next day delivery wasn’t soon enough. My colleague put me onto The Iconic who have a 3hr delivery service. I was able to order an outfit for that evening and have it delivered before lunch. I wouldn’t have been able to get to the shops pick something out and get back to work in that time!

Wantitnow.com.au is the genius company that powers the 3 hr delivery service that The Iconic offers. Started by two mothers who were frustrated by the time delay in ordering online. They wanted the immediacy like shopping in store but without the stress. I’m not a mum but I can imagine the hassle packing up a pram, the car and getting kids ready for a shopping mall trip!Wantitnow.com.au has elevated online shopping to a whole new level. The offer fast delivery & great customer service. Real time tracking of your order, a mobile app and even text notification to alert you when you delivery is on its way.

WantItnow.com.au is a service for retailers and also a shopping destination for you & me! They have so many amazing retailers like Designer Forum, Style Tread, The Iconic, Sambag and Diva.

Perfect Gifts for Mum

Perfect Gifts for Mum

I hate shopping. Yup a fashion/beauty blogger just admitted a hate for shopping! I hate the crowds. I hate finding a park. I hate that everything has been knocked off the shelves. But unfortunately it is an inevitable fate. Plus I live far away from my Mum & don’t get to see her so often these days so I love to give her extra special gifts when Mother’s Day rolls around. I’ll generally sit around and think about what I’m going to buy for weeks and then end up running around like a chicken without a head trying to find the perfect gift. In comes my love of gift guides. Blogs & magazines collating beautiful options of what I could give my mum – what a mum would actually loveIf there is something a woman always appreciates it’s a new handbag. I’m not sure whether it’s about the fashion or the status symbol but every mother I know has always valued a beautiful well crafted handbag. As we move into the cooler months transeasonal colours are best so they can be worn now and through to summer. We love 3.1 Phillip Lim for the effortless style of the Lark bag (pictured left). We also love Arlington Milne who has managed to craft the perfect bag. If your mum carries around everything (including the kitchen sink) then Stella bag is perfect. It’s sad to say how often us women live up to our stereotypes. Handbags and shoes. Introduce Mum to a new style of heel to make her fall in love all over again. Even if your Mum has a shoe collection to rival Kim Kardashian’s closet I’m sure she is missing a few new designers. Buy your Mum a pair of Camilla Skovgaard Open Toe Booties or introduce her to the latest craze of wedged sneakers, we love these lace ups by See by Chloe. If you buy your mum the Chloe’s I’m going to have serious shoe envy.Mum isn’t getting any younger. As I’m sure you know as the days roll on it’s harder to keep a youthful glow about your skin. What used to be easy and carefree now requires hard work and alot of amazing products. My favourite product for radiating skin at the moment is M.A.C Cosmetics Strobe Cream. This product honestly saved my skin in a stressful season of my life. It’s a potent mix of botanicals which gives your skin a boost. Tell Mum to wear it under foundation to revitalise her complexion. While you are at the M.A.C counter pick up Fix+ spray it’s a great way to seal makeup and keep skin hydrated.

The Tom Ford Cosmetics Collection

The Tom Ford Cosmetics Collection

When a man as fabulous as Tom Ford puts his hand to anything it turns out just the way it should be. The right mix of glamour, edge, sophistication, wearability and complete indulgence. Cue The Tom Ford Cosmetics Collection. A range of colour cosmetics and skin treatments to make any woman feel like their being escorted by Tom himself for a night out on the town. (a gay best friend escort of course). I love the way the collection is described in the press release “Tom Ford Beauty is a paragon of luxury and effectiveness.”

I’ve just started to understand the power in makeup you cannot see but does a whole lot of work. By making your makeup work hard to create a muted elegant look you’ll cause jaws to drop when you walk into a room, the whispers will be along the lines of “how does she do it?”

I was lucky enough to be able to test the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate palette. Tom believes women should sculpt their bone structure’s appearance by illuminating and shadowing their face. The palette contains a light shading cream to brighten and sculpt the face

RAFW: Nicky Zimmermann Interview

RAFW: Nicky Zimmermann Interview

The designing duo Nicky & Simone will be showing their label Zimmermann for the 13th year in a row in 2010! What an achievement! Zimmermann is an Australian based label with a strong focus on luxury swimwear. It’s a label that has become a household name for dresses to dance the night away as well as swimwear. We had the privilege of catching up with Nicky Zimmermann to get the goss on their upcoming show at RAFW in just

The label has gone from the Paddington markets to becoming a household name for Australian design. Did you ever anticipate the journey you’ve had?
Of course not, but we have always had some big goals and wanted to make this label our life so we always hoped that it would be a great ride!
The news just landed that your opening another concept store in Soho, New York. How did you decide on Soho?
We have been searching for the perfect store location in New York for a while now and have looked at lots of different downtown options. But the site we have in Soho was just beautiful and felt right.
Are you planning to launch any other concept stores soon?
Yes. In Australia, we are opening a flagship in the Sydney CBD this year and in the US, we have a few other ideas that are in the pipeline.
Nicky and Simone ZimmermannZimmermann clothing is always perfect for the Australian climate, is this something you take into consideration when designing?
It has some influence over what we design but mostly we are just working to create something new and beautiful.
Where did you draw inspiration from for your Spring/Summer 10/11 collection?
The idea started with a simple progression of tonal colour, starting at black and white. We wanted the collection to be pure, fresh and ordered. Clean colour, uncomplicated prints but all together cohesive and beautiful. As the collection evolved we started to work with lines, geometric shapes and melded these with naturally beautiful elements to create something that we love and want to wear.
What fabrics and prints can we expect to see for Spring/Summer 10/11?
Linear prints, spirographs, perspective lines and vanishing points have been combined with mono-toned florals on white bases to create things which are all at one. Our prints feature a gradation of shapes and lines that grow as they run down the body. Fabrics were chosen for weight with an emphasis on the capacity of each to carry our new silhouettes, they include triple weight silk crepe, failles, waffle suiting.

Beauty Spot: Best Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Beauty Spot: Best Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Dandruff is a beauty problem that has said to affect up to 50% of the population. It is a condition that is often looked at as unhealthy or ‘dirty’. When in fact that could not be less true. Our skin is forever renewing itself, it automatically sheds a layer of skin to make room for a new layer (somewhat gross). A person who is affected by dandruff simply has skin that sheds a lot faster than the average person. As this skin in shedding in our hair it ends up being noticeable. Most mild cases of dandruff do not require medical treatment, just a good anti dandruff shampoo. I myself am a sufferer of dandruff (about 6 months ago it appeared out of nowhere, so it’s not something you might always have) so I have been trying and testing a number of different shampoos to find ‘The Best Anti-Dandruff Shampoo‘. Here are the results of my at home testing.

Kerastase Paris: The most expensive anti dandruff shampoo I tried but it did deliver great results. It uses Salicylic Acid to gently exfoliates the scalp, which is a well known anti dandruff treatment Pityrosporum Ovalae (big words!) helps to not only eliminate the dandruff but keep it away!

Australian Tea Tree Organic: I always like to include an organic option in ‘beauty spot’, and this is a killer, literally! Australian tea tree oil is a great antiseptic and is exactly is what dandruff needs to keep it away. The only downside to this treatment is the smell (tea tree isn’t so pleasant). Follow with a sweet smelling conditioner for the best results.

Garnier Fructis: The economic value of the Garnier Anti-dandruff shampoo defiantly takes the cake. Not only does it get rid of dandruff after one wash but it helps strengthen the hair and gives it a gorgeous shine! At the recommended retail of about $6 it’s great value for money (which as a student is SO important to me). I initially bought this shampoo as the packaging is exactly the same as all the other Fructis products (I hate bottles that scream “YES I have dandruff).

Try a few out for yourself before you make a committed decision. I’m currently rotating a few different ones including the ones above. Hope this helps beautiful friends!

The Rise Fall and Rise of the Supermodel

The Rise Fall and Rise of the Supermodel

The Supermodel has had a bumpy ride of the last 20 years; created during the 1990’s killed in the new millennium and now resurrected in 2009. A handful of models with ‘that’ look were sprawled across our favourite glossies in the early 90’s. The dream of looking like them was unattainable, and for that they earned millions. Naomi, Cindy, Elle became household names to the western world. These women became a dream team, walking, talking, listening, sleeping glamour. They were like show dogs, required high maintenance, but when paraded the rewards and admiration was pricelessTowards the end of the 1990’s fashion became bored of the supermodel, and our old favourites started to get well, old. Agencies fretted and started to churn out new model after model after model. Thus became the disappearance of the supermodels and the emergence of a whole lot of faces without names. Focus was shifted from the model to the clothes and the brand. Magazines and fashion houses emphasized that they were about the design, not the clothes hanger.

Meanwhile the fashion industry was booming, new houses were opening, designers were launching, fashion weeks were appearing in every country. The market became tough, competitors became tougher and the media had broad amounts of material to work with. To gain a competitive advantage the big houses began a search for models with ‘that’ look. They started to look for the women that were walking, talking, listening, sleeping glamour. Supermodels were again needed in the industry, so a new handful was selected from supermarket lines, the park and the local basketball team. Miranda, Agyness, Abby Lee, Gemma, Lily began to pocket the cash and create competitive advantages for fashion brands while creating for themselves household names. In 2009 the dream team are back. Reinvented
